Assistant Manager, Strategic Partnerships

NYRR’s Business Development & Strategic Partnerships department is responsible for generating and garnering corporate revenue, value and promotion for NYRR in exchange for marketing and advertising benefits to its partners.  The department seeks to match the needs of NYRR with the partners’ and their various objectives.  NYRR’s needs include cash, as well as value-in-kind products and services, which help to reduce NYRR’s expenses, and partner marketing/promotional support, which helps to build the NYRR brand and expand the audience.  In addition to bringing in revenue, the Business Development & Strategic Partnerships department ensures that NYRR delivers on its obligations to its partners.


Primary Functions:

  • Manage the day-to-day oversight and execution of key accounts, as well as provide support on Manager’s accounts
  • Learn the breadth and depth of NYRR to ensure all projects leverage all resources to achieve both partner and NYRR objectives
  • Liaise between NYRR corporate partners and internal teams, including Event Development & Production, Brand Marketing & Communications, Strategy & Planning and Information Technology
  • Serve as partner lead for and at various NYRR events throughout the year
  • Other projects as assigned


  • Create and develop mutually beneficial integrated marketing programs for partners by working to understand the partners’ marketing objectives and priorities, while maintaining top-notch client service
  • Manage and fulfill contractual benefits, including but not limited to:
    • Advertising elements such as signage and other creative executions
    • Expo and other experiential activations
    • Hospitality assets such as race entries and VIP invitations
    • Digital and social media integration
    • Point-of-sale and other retail marketing promotions
    • Value-in-kind benefits
  • Manage multiple projects from start to finish, including but not limited to:
    • Setting objectives and timelines
    • Running meetings
    • Coordinating and tracking all deliverables
    • Planning and executing  on-site activations
    • Creating event recaps and participating as needed in partner renewal discussions
    • Managing P&Ls, conducting financial analysis and measuring ROI/ROO
  • Build strong partner relationships thorough understanding of clients’ businesses
  • Communicate project updates to both the partner and senior management in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate an understanding of branding and brand value

Skills and Attributes:

  • 3-4 years’ experience in a sponsorship fulfillment, account management, marketing or agency role
  • Self-starter who enjoys working in an active and challenging environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively through oral and written communications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and interpersonal skills
  • Energy and enthusiasm for NYRR’s mission and growth initiatives
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Flexibility and ability to simultaneously work on a number of projects
  • Ability to work early mornings, late nights and weekends as needed
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
  • CRM experience a plus
